Posted on timeDecember 9th, 2009 by userPrem in catGeneral Information, Parenting    flag(3) Comments

The sight of the syringe piercing their child’s tender skin is a sure heartbreaking experience for parents. The child on their part is also petrified at the same time! Not any more, here is some good news.

Two Indian product designers (Samarth and Bhavna) have come up with a solution which they plan to make it to the market soon. Their invention is to make the syringe look less scary. They have named their product, Acceptor.

They say that the Acceptor is a child-friendly syringe, one that would distract the kids’ attention and help them overcome the fear of taking injections. The syringes are brightly colored with attachments in different shapes like a butterfly, an aircraft or a juice-bottle, which will conceal the syringes.

The product is intended to hit the markets in the next 8 months. The inventors are in an agreement with an Indian company and talks are on with a Sweden-based hospital, Dandreyds Sjukhus, to make the products.

The price of the syringe has not been finalised, but it is estimated to cost around Rs 10 or around 25 Cents.

Mantra to overcome bad dreams, nightmare and fear

Posted on timeDecember 1st, 2009 by userPrem in catGeneral Information, Parenting    flag(13) Comments

Does you children have trouble with bad dreams, nightmares while sleeping? You really don’t have to worry, there is an age old Indian mantra that Grand mothers pass from one generation to another. It is is known as Arjuna’s ten, which is the 10 names of Arjuna. Arjuna is one among the Pandavas from the epic Mahabharata.

So here is the sloka/ mantra to overcome bad dreams, nightmare and fear:

Arjuna Phalguno Jishnu Kireedi Shwetavaahana BibhatsurVijaya Partha Savyasaachi Dhananjaya

But why this sloka/ hymn? The origins are as follows. People were afraid of natural disasters like thunder and lightning in the olden days. Since Arjuna was Indra’s son, they believed that if you recite the names in Praise of Arjuna, Lord Indra will be pleased. Please remember that Lord Indra is the lord of Rain, lightning and thunderbolt. Later to overcome any fear they started chanting this mantra.
