Does you children have trouble with bad dreams, nightmares while sleeping? You really don’t have to worry, there is an age old Indian mantra that Grand mothers pass from one generation to another. It is is known as Arjuna’s ten, which is the 10 names of Arjuna. Arjuna is one among the Pandavas from the epic Mahabharata.
So here is the sloka/ mantra to overcome bad dreams, nightmare and fear:
Arjuna Phalguno Jishnu Kireedi Shwetavaahana BibhatsurVijaya Partha Savyasaachi Dhananjaya
But why this sloka/ hymn? The origins are as follows. People were afraid of natural disasters like thunder and lightning in the olden days. Since Arjuna was Indra’s son, they believed that if you recite the names in Praise of Arjuna, Lord Indra will be pleased. Please remember that Lord Indra is the lord of Rain, lightning and thunderbolt. Later to overcome any fear they started chanting this mantra.

Honey is the only food on the planet that will not spoil or rot. However, when left in a cool dark place
for a long time it will do what is rather called as “crystallizing”. When this happens, loosen the lid, boil some water, and sit the honey container in the hot water, off the heat and let it liquefy. It is then as good as it Ever was. Never boil honey or put it in a microwave. To do so will kill the enzymes in the honey.

Children safety precautions for Deepavali/ Diwali
Posted on October 13th, 2009 by Prem (3) Comments
It is that time of the year again when we celebrate our festival Diwali or the festival of lights. Diwali or Deepavali for the southies, if not celebrated in the right spirit and manner, may result in serious injuries and I have first hand account of the same. Let me tell you what happened.
When I was 10 or 11, after the celebrations on the next day, we kids use to gather all the unbroken crackers from the ground, cut open the same and collect the chemical deposits. This chemical powder will be rolled up in a paper and lit to light up like a flower pot.
So, we were having this adventure and my neighbour Anil lit the paper ball filled with the chemical powder. I think the paper was wet or something, he just blew some air and boom, the entire fireball was on his face. He had a burnt face for a month and the beating we all got at our homes is nothing compared to the pain what he had to go through for a month.
Another stuff we did, but I won’t let my son do is bursting crackers with an empty tin on top of it.
It is natural for us to be mischievous when we are kids but as parents it is our duty to tell the kids of the danger in such mischief’s.
Here are some general guidelines for a safe and happy Diwali.
- Store the fireworks to be used at a safer place. Not near burning diyas. Don’t carry them in your pocket either.
- Use fireworks only in the outdoors and in open.
- Always use a long Agarbathi/ Incense stuck for igniting fire crackers. Do not light straight away with match stick or diya.
- Rockets will never go in the intended direction, run really far away after you light them.
- Do not approach misfired fireworks soon, wait for some time and don’t try lighting them if the wick is too small.
- Do not wear loose clothes. Do not wear synthetic clothes, wear thick cotton clothing.
So wish you all a safe and fun filled Diwali.
We also have a new section in our website which gives you an entire list of diwali/ deepavali inspired baby names.
